Spatterdock beds in the back of the pond and scattered throughout the shoreline areas attract fish during warm months. Floating mats of filamentous algae are evident during some years and control by algaecides or harvesting is often required.
Andrews Lake is located in the central part of the state 2 miles west of Frederica, DE.This small pond has a variety of gamefish such as largemouth bass, chain pickerel, bluegill, yellow perch and less common white perch and black crappie. It also has the distinction of holding the State Record for largemouth bass (10 pounds, 5 ounces taken in December 1980 by Tony Kaczmarczyk). In contrast, the bluegill are not very abundant, but a good proportion of the population consists of larger individuals (over 8 inches). Yellow perch offer some fishing action beginning in the early spring and lasting into the winter months. Chain pickerel are present in limited numbers and like to hang out in the headwater section of the pond among the spatterdock beds. White perch and black crappie are few in number, but those present are good sized. Fishing the deadfalls around the dam and lower portion of the pond is most successful for crappie. Since much of the shoreline is residential, bank fishing is limited to the access area.
