The shallow depth of this pond is reflected in the plant species present. The headwater streams were completely blocked with a mix of smartweed and swamp loosestrife. Spatterdock was present over much of the pond itself but mats of floating filamentous algae were also evident. Harvesting of algal mats is conducted periodically to keep the pond usable but the effects are short-lived. Duckweed and watermeal were often present on the surface of the algal mats.
Tubmill Pond is quite small and has a correspondingly low number of largemouth bass. The catch rate of bass collected here during routine fish sampling was lower than almost all ponds sampled. No bass larger than 15 inches were observed. Average weights of bass were within the normal range, but growth was below average. The population was dominated by sub-adult fish (8 to 12 inches).Bluegill numbers were also low with a narrow size distribution (6 to 9 inches). Tubmill Pond is unusual in that the catch rate of pumpkin-seed sunfish (see adjacent photo) was greater than that for bluegill. American eel was the most abundant fish species in the pond but a few brown bullhead catfish were also present.A boat ramp with a very small parking lot (three or four vehicles) is present.
